Purpose and Balance in Digital Learning

01.10.2024

Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) funded project at the English School in collaboration with 3DBear and Qridi

At our school, we are dedicated to finding purpose and balance in how we teach digital skills and integrate digital tools into learning. At the moment, a team of teachers is working on the Finnish National Agency for Education funded ICT project, which spans from grade 1 to 6. As part of the project, we are developing a holistic learning path that equips students with essential digital skills while encouraging a healthy balance between technology and everyday life. This learning path combines soft and hard skills of technology and integrates digital wellbeing.

The project is in alignment with the National Digital Competence Framework and emphasises purposeful teaching of ICT. By creating a structured learning path and engaging activities, we ensure that students gain both the knowledge and the confidence to use technology purposefully. At the same time, we recognize that finding balance between the digital world and everyday life is equally important.

By involving students in filming simulations, sharing their needs and giving feedback on the material created, we have gained insights that help us shape the learning materials. This collaboration ensures the resources we create are engaging and meet students’ needs.

Aligned with the National Digital Competence Framework, we are developing a structured approach to ICT learning, providing teachers with ready-to-use materials while ensuring that every student gains the digital skills they need. This includes also the awareness and ability to monitor and assess one’s own digital use and digital wellbeing.

By providing  interactive tasks and simulations, we aim to make digital learning purposeful, preparing our students for the future—while maintaining balance in their learning experience.

At the moment we are combining the material produced into a holistic learning path. Some classes have already piloted their material to give the first round of feedback, the other grade levels will get to join the action in the spring 2025.

We look forward to the next steps and are excited to share the progress with you soon!
